South African income tax calculator (2026/2027)
Enter your salary to see your income tax (PAYE), your UIF, and what actually lands in your account. It uses the official 2026/2027 SARS tables and age rebates.
How the calculator works
It takes your gross salary, works out the income tax on the SARS sliding scale, subtracts your age rebate, and takes off UIF. What remains is your take-home pay.
- Income tax (PAYE): your salary is taxed bracket by bracket on the 2026/2027 tables below, then the rebate comes off.
- Rebates: R17,820 for everyone, plus R9,765 from age 65 and a further R3,249 from 75.
- UIF: 1% of your pay, capped at earnings of R17,712 a month, so no more than R177.12.

What it leaves out
To keep it simple, this calculator uses your income and age only. Two things commonly lower your tax below what it shows:
- Retirement contributions, which are deductible up to 27.5% of income and reduce your taxable income.
- Medical aid tax credits, a fixed monthly amount that comes straight off your tax.
So treat the figure as a solid estimate for a standard salary, and a slight overstatement of tax if you contribute to a retirement fund or a medical scheme.
Common questions
How is take-home pay worked out?
Gross salary, less PAYE on the 2026/2027 tables and rebates, less UIF. What's left is your net pay.
Does it include medical aid and retirement?
No, it uses income and age only. Both of those lower your tax further.
Is it exact?
It's a close estimate for a standard salary. Confirm with SARS or your payroll for your precise figure.
